Nowadays, the focus of the educational process in our society has shifted from the teacher to the learner. In earlier times, teachers were the head who decides the way of teaching. Consequently, the NIOS board is establish for growing the concept of open schooling. It takes admissions in different streams. To accomplish the objective of open schooling, NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) is established in the year 1989. NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) is constituted under the ministry of HRD (Human Resource Development), Government of India. National Institute of Open Schooling was formerly known as National Open School (NOS). The headquarter of NIOS is situated in NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh. It is contributing to the universalization of school education. NIOS is providing vocational as well as various academic courses for the students at the secondary and senior secondary level.

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is one of the three recognized national board of secondary education including CBSE board and ICSE board. NIOS board offer school education through open and distance learning mode. It is the largest open school system in the world which has the largest number of courses available. The learners (students) have joined prestigious colleges and professional institutions after completing their studies from NIOS board. National Institute of Open Schooling develops its own curriculum, self-learning system and media support programmes. The NIOS board is running its courses all over India as well as in overseas countries. It has established its regional centers in all the states of India.

The NIOS board takes conscious steps to provide quality education to the several of students. The Government of India has vested in NIOS board the authority to conduct the Public Examinations. It provides the Secondary and the Senior Secondary level certificates to the students. The certificates provided by NIOS board are equivalent to the certificates provided by any other recognized board of school education. NIOS is running two sessions of examinations, first of all in which exams are organized in the month of April and May. The second session is October session in which exams are organized in October and November. The NIOS also providing study material to its students so that students can well understand each and every subject. Furthermore, to facilitate the learner to deposit admission fee of Stream- 1, NIOS has introduced the system of admission fee submission through the online process using NIOS web portal.

About NIOS Stream – 1

NIOS Admission Stream- 1 is for the direct admission to class 10th or class 12th. Admission in NIOS board for stream- 1 is for those students who want to appear for board exams of class 10th & class 12th. If you are one of the aspiring students, but unfortunately you failed in your class 9th or class 11th school examination from a regular government or private school. Then, you can take NIOS admission stream- 1 and reappear in class 10th or class 12th board exam. Through NIOS board, you can reappear in board exam in the same year in which you are fail and achieve high marks to pass out the board exam with pride.

Admission in NIOS Stream- 1

Don’t worry, if you are fail in your class 9th school exams. You can take direct admission in class 10th from NIOS board. Through NIOS board, you can save a whole year of your study. Similarly, if students failed in their class 11th school examination, they can get direct admission into the class 12th board exam without wasting a precious year of education. For taking admissions in NIOS Stream- 1, students need to register for Stream- 1 and submit the application form. The application form of NIOS board is available online as well as offline mode. The NIOS admission stream- 1 is for the new learners (students) who have fail in class 9th or class 11th school examination and wants to get direct admission in class 10th or class 12th.

As the NIOS board follows a bi-annual examination process, the application form of NIOS board is available two times a year. So, the students can apply two times for NIOS board class 10th or class 12th admissions. The students can apply for Block- I or Block- II of NIOS admission stream- 1. The application form for NIOS admissions in the two blocks of the stream- 1 are generally available as under:

Block- I

As per the laid down eligibility criteria for Secondary and Senior Secondary levels, the Block- I of Stream- 1 for NIOS online admission is open for new learners for the examination in the month of April and May. In this block, learners will be eligible to appear in public examination first time in April and May. The application form for Block- I is available from the third week of March to the last week of July (without late fee).

Block- II

The Block- II of Stream- 1 for NIOS online admission is open for new learners for the examination in the month of October and November. The examination is held as per the laid down eligibility criteria for Secondary & Senior Secondary Levels. These learners will be eligible to appear in public examination first time in October and November. The application form for Block- II is available from the third week of September to the last week of January (without late fee).

Documents Required for NIOS Admission Stream- 1

For Class 10th Admission:

  1. The minimum age for NIOS admission stream- 1 public exam in class 10th is 14 years as on 31st July. Therefore, you need to submit an attested copy of birth certificate issued by the municipal authority or district office of the registrar. Name of the child, father and mother should be clearly written on the computerized certificate.
  2. You can also submit the transfer certificate or school leaving certificate instead of the birth certificate. That showing the applicant’s date of birth and it should be signed by the school principal.
  3. For taking admission in NIOS, you need to submit a valid residential address. Therefore, all you need is to submit an attested copy of one of the following option:
  • Aadhar Card
  • Ration Card
  • Voter ID Card
  • Water/Telephone/Electricity Bill

For Class 12th Admission:

  1. In order to verify your date of birth, you need to submit an attested xerox copy of class 10th passing certificate from any certified board (No other age proof document will be accepted).
  2. You need to have a valid residential address. For taking admission, first of all you need to submit an attested copy of one of the following option:
  • Aadhar Card
  • Ration Card
  • Voter ID Card
  • Water/Telephone/Electricity Bill
