NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) is based on an “Open School” concept in which you don’t have to go to the institute to attend the classes. NIOS conducts two types of courses first one is secondary and another is senior secondary. The NIOS secondary course is equivalent to the class 10th of CBSE or ICSE board and the NIOS senior secondary course is equivalent to the class 12th. CBSE or other recognized board take admission in class 12th after completing the class 11th from the same board.
Admission in Class 12th from NIOS
NIOS offers the senior secondary course which is equivalent to class 12th. Candidates who have passed class 10th from a recognized board of education can apply for the senior secondary course. NIOS offers direct admission to class 12th after completion of the class 10th examination. So, students can take direct admission in class 12th from NIOS board. But in this case, you should have cleared class 10th and there should be 1 year’s gap between this, and you have to study the full course of 11th and 12th. In fact, in NIOS there is nothing such called class 11th. They have two courses at the school level called Secondary for 10th class and Senior Secondary for 12th class.
NIOS also take admission for those students who fail in class 9th and class 11th. Students who fail in class 9th can take admission in 10th Class and the students who fail in class 11th can take admission in class 12th from NIOS board. Senior secondary course in NIOS board is also called 10+2. The 10+2 grade examination of NIOS covers the total syllabus of class 11th and class 12th. So in this, you would study the full syllabus of class 11th and 12th.
Eligibility for NIOS Board Admission in Secondary Course (Class 10th):
- Mark sheet of class 8th or class 9th.
- Class 8th or class 9th school leaving certificate with the countersign.
- Address Proof / Rent Agreement.
- Three passport size latest colored photographs.
Eligibility for NIOS Board Admission in Senior Secondary Course (Class 12th):
- Pass Mark Sheet & Certificate of 10th Class from Recognized Board.
- School leaving certificate with the countersign.
- Address Proof / Rent Agreement
- Three passport size latest colored photographs.
